After you get up, gargle with lightly salted water, then drink some warm water.
Waking up the body with
Bounce and shake.
Tai chi walk – lifting your kua, swinging shoulders and arms, keep the back upright.
Gently loosening all the joints.
If you feel anywhere particularly stiff, give more warm attention to it but don’t overdo it.
Relax the body, keep the mind centred.
Limbs -
Extend arms to the sides, like fists being pulled, you then move them up and down; open the fists, palms press down; tune in with breathing. Legs similar.
Standing like a tree – as deep as you feel comfortable
Tip of the tongue touching the back of the upper front teeth. No rush to breathe, slowly savouring the whole process of in breath, changing into out breath, breathing out… saliva appears, swallow it down to the Dantian.
If your mind is calm and still and your balance feel fine, let the eyes close; if your mind is busy, open your eyes without looking at anything in particular.
Do nothing, desire nothing. When qi fills, it moves. If strong or strange sensations or images manifest, no need to be fascinated or frightened by them. Just notice and allow.
Sau gong by gathering the qi back into the Dantian.
*Do not practise when you’re very hungry, full, angry or shocked.
Move with breathing
Slowly rotate joints (including the spine), e.g., wrists - bring the fist down as you breathe in, back and breathe out. The key is do it slowly. Same with the spine - rotate with breathing.
