Chinese for Chinese Medicine Practitioners & Curious Minds

In response to requests from acupuncture students, this Chinese course is designed primarily for Chinese Medicine practitioners and students, while being open to anyone interested in learning the language and culture.

Taught by ex-lecturer in Chinese and Translation who has over a decade of experience in Chinese Medicine, this course takes an experiential, practical approach to learning, with language rooted in real-life situations rather than taught in isolation. We’ll work with everyday conversations, including scenarios you might encounter in a Chinese Medicine clinic, as well as authentic texts and language related to Chinese Medicine. Along the way, we’ll explore the culture and context behind the language, helping you dive deeper in Chinese Medicine.

For example, we'll explore the Chinese names of acupoints, giving you the opportunity to learn and delve into the terminologies used in practice. You’ll gradually develop your confidence in spoken Mandarin Chinese and written Chinese through engaging and relevant material.

No previous knowledge of Chinese is required. Whether you’re an acupuncture student wanting to connect more deeply with the language of your studies, a practitioner curious about the origins of the terminology you use, or simply interested in learning Chinese, you’re very welcome.

The course runs in 12-week terms, with each term standing as part of an ongoing journey, so you can continue developing your language skills and deepening your understanding of Chinese language and culture.

We will initially require a deposit of £80 and the full fee to be paid by 5th December 2026, one month before the course starts.
